Nocturnes of Love, August 28, 2006 By Cissy Rae (North Central Texas) - See all my reviews This review is from: Horowitz plays Chopin vol.3 (Audio CD) The Nocturnes always move me, but Horowitz is by far the master of the piano - he brings Chopin to life in a way not heard before or since in this century. Horowitz and Chopin together - it doesn't get ANY better!

Interpretation of genius, August 19, 2005 By Thunderball (Czech Republic) - See all my reviews This review is from: Horowitz plays Chopin vol.3 (Audio CD) The pieces from third collection of Chopin works were recorded between 1945 and 1957. At that time Master was evidently in the top form. He performs Chopin with his individual, inimitable style, which makes listening to this music breathtaking experience.
In my humble opinion Horowitz's electrifying pianism shines best in the Mazurkas. There are six Mazurkas and I would like to hightlight Op.63, No.2. - really captivating achievent and definitive version.
The sound quality varies, but in general is acceptable (solid mono ADD recordings). If you like Chopin, you should buy this album. And if you like Horowitz, you don't need my review...

Finest RCA Horowitz Recordings, October 24, 2009 By Scriabinmahler (UK) - See all my reviews This review is from: Horowitz plays Chopin vol.3 (Audio CD) These performances were recorded between 1945 and 1957 in very good mono (except Waltz Op.34 No.2, & Mazurka Op.7 No.3 which suffers from heavy background noise), and they exemplify the very best of Horowitz's magical and mercurial pianism.
Nocturnes and Mazurkas are played with ethereal beauty and delicacy that is suffused with deep Romanticism. Polonaise-Fantasie, Ballade No.4 and Scherzos are presented in the usual flamboyant style with extreme contrast between daring grandeur and fragility.
Overall, this disc is one of the most satisfying among all Horowitz RCA recordings and represents the pianist at the transitional period that leads to the further artistic maturity and refinment in the 60-70s.
